Principal's message

A message from our principal, Megan Bobbin. We look forward to meeting you and showing you our wonderful school.

Fabulous students

Our students are our number one priority at Tathra Public School. Our school is a centre of educational excellence for students from Kindergarten to Year Six. We have just over 180 students enrolled in the school this year and work hard to ensure learning is inclusive, integrated and individualised.

Wonderful staff

Our teaching staff has a deep knowledge of curriculum and best practice, including the use of data to inform teaching and learning, quality feedback, skills to differentiate and personalise learning and have strong collaborations with collegial networks. Having teachers who love teaching and who are inspired, motivated and skilled educators leads to engaged and successful students. Our team of Student Learning Support Officers ensure students with learning needs can fully access the curriculum within the regular classroom setting. Our caring and professional administrative staff are well known to our students and welcome and support our whole school community.  Our school grounds always look beautiful thanks to our tireless General Assistant. We all feel lucky to be part of a great staff.

Harmonious culture

Our school's core values of Respect, Responsibility and Kindness overarch the positive culture of the school. The implementation of programs and strategies that strengthen one's sense of self-worth, self-awareness and personal identity, including the ability to identify and demonstrate our core values, leads to effective self-management of emotional, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing that ensures success at school, work and in life.

Collaborative community

As a rural school in a small community, the identification and utilisation of the skills, expertise and resources of parents, carers, families, community members and businesses maximises our students' learning opportunities ensuring they become active and informed Australian citizens. This mutually benefits the entire community.

Engaging programs

Expert, engaging and evidence-based teaching and learning programs are delivered at Tathra. To further provide rich learning opportunities for our students, we offer specialised programs in Japanese language and culture, local Aboriginal language and culture, student leadership, music, art, performance, dance, gardening and environmental education. Our school also offers a range of sporting opportunities for our students.

A site of significance

We acknowledge the Yuin people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is situated. Our school grounds was once a place where Aboriginal people gathered to be taught skills to survive in harmony with nature. The three significant mountains of Gulaga and Biamanga to the north and Bulowon to the south along with the Tasman Sea to our east are all visible from our school. From this place uninterrupted views of the night sky and the stars connected the people to the world and the universe.

Today we continue to gather each day at our school to learn and teach one another. Aboriginal history is valued and local language and culture is taught by Aboriginal people in the community.
